The Expressionism in Switzerland
The Kunst Museum Winterthur in Switzerland is dedicating a major exhibition to the Expressionism in Switzerland. It is the first exhibition that includes the whole geographical area of Switzerland, including the artistic expressions in the French-speaking (western Switzerland) and Italian- speaking (southern area of Ticino) part of the country. How this radically new style developed in this country is the theme of the exhibition.
In particular a phenomenon typical of Switzerland becomes apparent, which is reflected in the multilingualism: Swiss artists stood between two major spheres of cultural influence: from Germany on the one hand and France on the other. While The New Objectivity and Cubism developed only to a limited extent in this country, the Expressionism is considered as the "strongest and most influential artistic-style of the Swiss Modernism”.
