The Medici and Europe
2013 is the anniversary of the Treaty of Maastricht, means 20 years of the European Union.
The head of the Soprintendenza in Florence, Dr.ssa Cristina Acidini, the director of the Uffizi Dr. Antonio Natali and other important Museums in Florence with collections of the Medici, plan an international exhibition with the focus on the exchange between Florence and other European areas in the period of the Medici-Dynasty.
The basic concept is to explore the cultural interchanges in the Medici-period in order to show the origins of the common European identity in the present days. In this context the exhibition concept will focus on the cultural exchange between Florence and different European contries like the Dutch area and to show how f.e the Flemish works and masterpieces in the Medici collections grew and also which masterpieces in the collections of European museum are related to the Medici. Contemporanea Progetti in Florence and expona are members of the organizing committee.
